Canadian Royal Heritage Institute

(CRHT’s Operations Wing)

The Canadian Royal Heritage Institute is the operations wing of the Canadian Royal Heritage Trust. It is tasked with carrying out the activities necessary to implement the Trust’s mandate of preserving, presenting and enhancing the royal heritage of Canada. The headquarters of the Institute is located in Toronto, Ontario but its activities are conducted throughout Canada.  Donors to and volunteers of the Trust become members of the Canadian Royal Heritage Institute by virtue of their contribution and belong to one of eleven geographical areas for administrative and programming purposes.

The Canadian Royal Heritage Institute operates through ten functional divisions, which undertake the various roles assigned to the Institute by the board of trustees of the Canadian Royal Heritage Trust and reports to the board through the executive director, who is a trustee on the board.  The functional divisions are:

King Louis XIV Canadian Royal Heritage Archives;

Canadian Royal Heritage Community Presentations;

Canadian Royal Heritage Education;

Canadian Royal Heritage History, Research and Publications;

King George III Canadian Royal Heritage Library;

Canadian Royal Heritage Museum, Galleries and Displays;

Canadian Royal Heritage Newsletter;

Canadian Royal Heritage Programmes;

Canadian Royal Heritage Publicity;

Canadian Royal Heritage Website.

For administrative and programming purposes the Trust has divided the country into three regions (Western Canada, Ontario, Eastern Canada) and fourteen areas.  Each area has either an active branch of the Canadian Royal Heritage Institute, with a branch chairman, or a trustee on the Operations, Civic Liturgy or Public Relations Committees representing the Trust in the area. Friends of the Trust (donors and volunteers) are organised into branches of The Canadian Royal Heritage Institute. These branches are Vancouver Island, British Columbia; Mainland British Columbia; Alberta; Manitoba & Saskatchewan; Southwestern Ontario, Midwestern Ontario, Greater Hamilton Area; Greater Toronto Area, Quinte Area; Greater Ottawa – Gatineau Area; Greater Montreal Area; Greater Quebec Area; Gaspe, Quebec Area; and Atlantic Canada. The level of activity varies from branch to branch but the Institute’s programmes provide a means for members to involve themselves in and support the work of the Trust and its Institute in their area.  Institute branches hold lectures, community presentations, special events and social activities.  They also provide personnel for staffing the Institute’s local library branches and galleries, and assist the education, history and publicity divisions of the Institute.
